The foundation beneath the work

Rare Brilliance’s mission is grounded in a continuing pursuit of truth and understanding. Its foundation gives purpose to the institution and standards to the work it undertakes.

Mission

Rare Brilliance exists to discover, cultivate, preserve, and responsibly apply enduring ideas that advance human understanding and capability.

Conviction and remembrance

What grounds the work

My faith in Jesus Christ is the foundation. Rare Brilliance, its work, and everything I do as founder are not ultimately about me. They are to be undertaken for the glory of God.

Rare Brilliance is not ultimately about me. My faith in Jesus Christ is the foundation, and the work must be faithfully stewarded for the glory of God.

The founder’s stated conviction, in his own voice.

Philosophy and inquiry

Truth precedes our understanding

Rare Brilliance holds that truth exists independently of our understanding of it. Human knowledge is incomplete, so ideas must remain open to observation, reasoning, testing, criticism, and refinement. Conviction may motivate inquiry; it cannot substitute for it.

How understanding develops

From question to responsible application

Rare Brilliance moves from uncertainty toward understanding through methods suited to the question. Perception and experience can begin inquiry. Clear language makes ideas examinable and transferable. Testing, challenge, and refinement help determine what has become worthy of continued stewardship.

Question→Inquiry→Observation and experience→Testing→Clarity→Challenge and refinement→Preservation→Responsible application→New questions
Institutional principles

11Mission before expression.
12Integrity between principle and practice.
Culture

Where the foundation becomes lived

Rare Brilliance’s culture is described separately from its institutional foundation. The Culture page presents the qualities the institution seeks to cultivate among the people entrusted with its work.

The foundation gives direction to the institution. Its expressions may develop; the mission remains the reason for their existence.
